Lammas arrives with golden warmth,
the soft turning when summer loosens its hold
and light begins its sacred, gentle descent.
Bless this ripening time, the grain,
the fruit, the promise that rises from fields brushed by sunlight.
May gratitude drift through us,
and may the waning light guide our steps,
the early harvest strengthen our bodies,
and the ancient warmth of Lammas
wrap around us like a cloak.
And may the turning of this season keep our spirits rooted, strong, and full of light.
Note: Lammas –the first day of August, formerly observed in Britain as a harvest festival, during which bread baked from the first crop of wheat was blessed. Lammas is the summer cross‑quarter day; Cross‑quarter days are the midpoints between the solstices and equinoxes, and — the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Autumn Equinox
